Citizen of the Year
The award recognizes a volunteer’s efforts as a Richton Park resident, for the betterment and involvement of the community. Being among several residents nominated, Yvonne was chosen to represent the Village with the prestigious award.
Yvonne Evans relocated to Richton Park, IL from Calumet City in 2002. She works as a network Consultant for Guaranteed Technical Services, Inc. (GTSAC); a Technology Consulting Small Business located in Richton Park, Illinois - Co-founded and Co-Owned by her husband, Daniel Evans.
Passionate about her community and how she can contribute to its “proud past and bright future,” Yvonne volunteers on the Village of Richton Park’s Beautification Committee and Sister City Committee. For many years, Yvonne has been a member of the Beautification Committee, serving as the Chair and collaborating with volunteers to promote pride, ownership and beautification throughout the Richton Park community. Meanwhile, in the Sister City Committee; she was among the first Richton Park groups to travel to our Sister City’s home town of Cat Island, Bahamas.
With her desire to continue to make an impact in her community’s youth, Yvonne joined the local PTSO (Parent Teacher Student Organization) and donates her time and effort to giving back to the local schools in the elementary school district. Going even a step further, she serves as a substitute teacher for School District 162.
Yvonne is actively involved with “Friends of the Richton Park Library,” a non-profit organization, of wonderful volunteers who help promote, support, and enhance the use of the library by sponsoring programs and providing necessary materials and furnishings for community cultural enrichment. Yvonne is also a lively member in her church, Victory Apostolic Church in Matteson, IL, where she is a part of the Hospitability Committee.
Although Yvonne has a busy schedule, her beloved family is very important to her and she doesn’t take for granted the blessed life she has. Her husband and two sons who are in college; one at Illinois State University and the other at the University of Illinois Urbana Champaign, are her main priority. Yvonne planted the seed of volunteerism in them early, as they both are very active members of the community. It gives her great joy to see them taking that seed and enriching the people and places around them as well.
Community service is important to Yvonne. She believes that in this precious life that we live; citizens have the responsibility to use their blessings, and actively involve themselves in efforts that contribute to the betterment of their community.
